About

My name is Garrett Seiple (www.garrettseiple.com) and I was born here, on Aquidneck Island.  I studied creative writing at Eckered College under Scott Ward.  I am self-taught behind the lens but with a lot of guidance from DC Chavez.

I have been often asked: what was the motivation behind starting this blog?

It really started with a desire to form a project that would keep me shooting through the fall and winter.  A time of the year which drains motivation.  I knew that the project had to be made open to the public or it would be subject to falling by the wayside.  Another aspect of the motivation was a string of conversations I was having with a friend, Neil Manacle, whom had just moved here from NYC.  We talked much about the island and often about how his perception and how it differs from mine.  And from those conversations I began to wonder: what is my perception of this island I call home.  This blog is part of my ongoing discovery of what I call home.

  1. Hi Garrett,
I live in Arlington, VA with my family now. Thanks for this taste of home!
    Take care,

  2. This is trully wonderful and thank you for sharing – so many familiar sites and I thought I was the only one to feel this way about Aquidneck Island!

  3. Hi Garrett;
Read the article about you in the Newport Daily News. Now checking
out your site. Like you I was raised in Middletown & Newport. Am
finally able to return & hopefully settle here for the remainder of
the time allotted me. For a long time I have been searching for the
“perfect” photograph of the now Pell Bridge. “Perfect” for my taste
not necessarily from the photographic standpoint. Season, time of
day, or night, is not important. It is about what the picture says to
me as one of the few constants, always there waiting upon my return
visits to Aquidneck Island. Have lived many places over the years but
my heart will always be here. I agree with you it is a truly beautiful
    place.

  4. My daughter Tiah sent me to your site and it has inspired and intrigued me beyond words. ~Thank you so very much.

  5. Can I add you as a link to our website?

  6. I used to have the weekly photos of Aquidneck Island available to me but somehow after aug 2010 lost touch. Have you continued with this project and if so is there a way I may access again. Loving your contribution to a serenity in my life. thanks you so much is not enough. coralie oliveira

    • Coralie,

Thank you very much for your kind words. The year long project ended in August of 2011. At this time there are talks of putting the project into book form, I will let you know if a print version of the project comes out or if I start up another year of shooting. Thank you again.

      Garrett J Seiple
